About René Higuita
René Higuita is a Colombian former goalkeeper who is considered one of the most unique and spectacular keepers in football history. He was known for his adventurous playing style, excellent footballing qualities and his willingness to play far outside his goal area. Higuita mainly made a name for himself at Atlético Nacional, with whom he won the Copa Libertadores in 1989. With Colombia, he became an absolute fan favourite and played an important role during the 1990 World Cup. His most iconic moment came in 1995, when he performed a spectacular save with his famous "Scorpion Kick" against England at Wembley. Thanks to his unique style, charisma and spectacular actions, he earned the nickname "El Loco". Higuita is considered one of the most recognizable and influential goalkeepers in the history of South American football.
